My New Blackwood Cardigan

I purchased and downloaded the Blackwood Cardigan by Helen's Closet months ago, but haven't had time to sew it up until now. I even had my fabric washed and ready to go for months so when I finally found the time to work on it this week, I took my time to make sure it would be as close to perfect as possible.

The fabric is a cotton jersey designed by Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman. The fabric is medium weight with a good amount of stretch and is sooooooo soft! It would be perfect for T-shirts, camis and even baby clothes. I actually have some pretty large scraps left and I'm thinking my grand-daughter might enjoy a dress in this fabric - as long as it's got some pink accents of course!

Let's talk about this pattern... This is my second garment from one of Helen's patterns (I made her York Pinafore about a year ago) and the instructions are always really, really clear. Helen holds your hands throughout the whole thing.

I made view B of the pattern. The cardigan ends right at my hips and is the perfect length for me.

I made a size 18 with no modifications and used the D cups pattern pieces. As a result, the front of the cardigan fits really nicely.

The arms are a tiny bit snug (I won't be wearing this cardigan with anything other than very short sleeves or camisoles) but the length of the sleeves is just perfect. I love longer sleeves on my tops.

The bottom line: I'll be making many more of these! I might try view A next time with a thicker sweater knit. Would be the perfect cardigan for a cold winter day.
