WIP Wednesday - FMQ Progress

I am super excited about the progress I am making with the quilting of my Star Surround top. Here is a picture of the top pre-quilting:

I started with some stitching in the ditch around the middle star and again around the surround area (the black piecing). Then, I showed you a picture of the pebbling I'm going with in the white space both inside and outside the surround:

The lime/blue pieces are quilted with some dot-to-dot motifs (which I learned in Angela Walters' latest Craftsy class).

And this weekend, I spent a bit of time practicing drawing swirls on paper. Once I was satisfied that I kind of knew what I was doing, I started sewing swirls in the black areas. It looks awesome! I love the texture the swirls give to the quilt (I also learned how to do swirls by taking a class by Angela - Quilting Negative Space):

And that's how far I got. I have a little bit of the pebbling left to do and then I can move on to the binding and the label. I hope to have this quilt done for the next Montreal Modern Quilt Guild meeting at the beginning of November.

I will be linking up at Lee's for WIP Wednesday again this week. Why don't you do the same? Each linky party is full of inspiration. :-). Click the button in my sidebar...

Thank you for stopping by!

  5. I am going to have to sign up for one of those Craftsy classes now. I love your FMQ and I have not really been brave enough to try it myself. A class might help.

  11. Your quilting is amazing! You obviously have the "touch" for it. What do you think the secret is? I seem to get all flustered and go too fast to get back over the same line. Then I think it just looks messy. Do you think the trick is fast feet, slower careful hands? I might have to try mixing it up a bit.

  12. Wow, can you believe not that long ago you felt like you couldn't FMQ? You sure have come a long way since then. Your quilting is just wonderful, and I am glad I get to see it.
