The Big EZ Finish

I mentioned this finish in a couple of posts this week, and now is the time for the full reveal!

Those of you who have been following my blog for a loooooong time might recall that the fabrics for this quilt were all chosen by my youngest - the only direction I gave him was that the fabric needed to have some purple in it or coordinate well with purple.

The pattern is from the book Bloom Creek Quilts by Vicky Bellino and the top came together super fast and easy. But then it sat in my pile of tops forever! Finally in March, I decided to make this my ONE finish for A Lovely Year of Finishes so got to work.

At about the same time, I discovered Leah Day's Craftsy class on FMQ and fell in love (with FMQ and with Leah - she is such an amazing teacher!).

Since The Big EZ has all those fabulous squares, I decided to practice my newly found FMQ skills on it. Here is the back where you can see some of the FMQ designs I chose.

I'm not very fast yet, so this top took many, many hours to quilt, but it was so worth the time and effort. I love the texture all that quilting gave to the quilt.

The finished size is about 74" x 95". I used polyester batting because I really wanted the stitching to show, mistakes and all!

Linking up at AmandaJean's for Finish It Up, at The Freemotion Quilting Project for FMQ Friday and at Quokka Quilts for TGIFF.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

  2. That's really nice! My 9 year old daughter picked fabrics for her first quilt. We started on it last night. I don't expect it to be anywhere near as coordinated as this one. :)
