Times Square Quilt

I like to plan my sewing projects each quarter - probably due to the fact that I used to host the Finish-Along for which you were required to list all the projects you were planning on working on over a 3-month period. Back in June, when planning my makes for quarter 3 of 2020, I pulled out my quilting books and started flipping through them hoping to get inspired.

When going through the Vintage Quilt Revival book, I decided to add the Times Square quilt to my list of projects.

My version is very different from the quilt in the book - I went with a black background and decided to use all pink fabrics for the block. I was able to use scraps for the first two rings and a half-yard cut I had in my stash for the third ring.

For the quilting, I stitched my favourite FMQ design: big flowers. I decided to leave the pink portions unquilted but I might actually go back and quilt them - I don't know yet.

The backing is a beige fabric I ordered a long time ago specifically for this quilt thinking I was going to use a light background and brown fabric for the blocks. I obviously changed my mind about the colours but this beige backing was the only piece I had in my stash that would be large enough so I used it.

The black thread definitely stands out against the light fabric, but I really don't mind that.

The binding is a pink Minnie Mouse fabric I had enough of.

The details:
I'm really happy with this quilt! For now, it'll go in my pile of potential gifts. With the Holidays coming in just a few months, this might come in handy!

  4. Great quilt! I love how the pink pops against the black. I really like the pink being unquilted, it gives the area a little 3D effect.
