The Seamwork Bobby Dress

I've been a Seamwork member for a little now but besides the Clarke top which I've done a few times now and the Moji pants I made last year, I hadn't really tried any other pattern.  I've had the Bobby dress on my "to make" list since it came out in April 2019.

I was hoping this would make a really cute summer dress, however my fabric choice wasn't great for really hot weather.

This is Ponte Roma from Minerva Crafts in the "wine" colour. This is a lovely fabric to work with and although the Minerva website has this listed as a medium weight Ponte, it is a lot heavier than I expected. This will be a great fall/winter dress paired with a cute cardigan or blazer.

I love the simplicity of this dress, I like the elastic waist and it was a pretty easy make.

But I made a mistake and cut a size 16 for some reason - I'm an 18 in Seamwork patterns so this dress is a little snug.

Next time, I'll definitely make a size 18 and raise the V neck a little bit - I'm not used to wearing a deep V like this and prefer a little more coverage.

The details:

  1. Beautiful dress! The cut and color look wonderful on you!

  2. I am so impressed by your clothes making abilities. I have been enjoying watching the things that you make. Even if it is the wrong size, it looks great! And looks good on you!

  3. This looks great on you. Love the colour. Good luck with the second version.
