York Pinafore Finish

I made another garment!! And it fits me... and it has pockets!!

I originally bought this tartan fabric as a quilt back, but when Helen's Closet launched their York Pinafore pattern back in May and I saw one of her testers' version in a plaid, I just had to make one.

The pattern is such a fun and easy make! I'm a really slow sewist and it took me about one day to put this one together (with the usual interruptions such as feeding the family and walking the dog). I did take the time to finish the garment with French seams so that took a little bit longer too.

The back doesn't fit perfectly (I've since read somewhere that I could piece the back with a seam down the middle and do a sway back adjustment to eliminate those folds on the back) but as one of my first garments, I'm really pleased with it overall. I did lengthen the front at the straps by about 1 inch as suggested in the pattern. I'm really happy I did that - my York is really comfy with plenty of room for the girls. But that was the only adjustment I made to the pattern.

And did I mention it has pockets!?

So this is officially my first Fall/Winter garment but definitely not my last. I am right now planning a few pieces to wear on the weekends - garments with a more relaxed fit that won't require a lot of fitting adjustments but enough of a challenge that my skills will improve. The instructions for the York are spot on and really detailed which is amazing for a beginner like me. I loved this pattern so much I went ahead and purchased Helen's Closet's Blackwood Cardigan and Avery Leggings patterns.
