2018 Quilter's Planner Sampler Quilt Finish

When I got my Quilter's Planner last Fall, I immediately knew I was going to make the Sampler Quilt designed by Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs. (I love pretty much everything Cheryl does!) I also knew I was going to use green scraps for this quilt (my green scrap bin was FULL).

I started off making one block every month grabbing whatever green and background scraps I could use. But then I fell behind in June. This month, I had 2 weeks off so decided to catch up and while the scrap bins were out, I went ahead and finished the whole top!

I tried to pick scraps that were big enough to use in multiple blocks to have some continuity across the quilt. And although the background fabrics are different in each block, they are all white (or off-white) fabrics.

I really love scrappy quilts, but they have to be somewhat controlled - restricted colour palette and lots of negative space to calm things down a bit.

And I kept the quilting very simple with horizontal wavy lines in Aurifil #2600 in 5 wt. This thread blends in so well all you see is the yummy texture.

I used yardage for the binding - I found this great stripe in my stash and just had to use it!

Stats:
  • Pattern: 2018 Quilter's Planner Sampler designed by Cheryl Brickey
  • Size: approx. 50" x 60" (I skipped the borders)
  • Fabrics: All scraps
  • Thread: Pieced and quilted with Aurifil #2600 (light grey) in 50 wt

I will be linking up at Alycia Quilts for TGIFF this week.

  1. Great finish! I think that staying with a coordinated color is lovely for the blocks and it looks like your 2 weeks were fun and productive. :)

  6. Pretty! I love scrap quilts but agree with you that negative space or a consistent background (I count yours as consistent) helps to keep them from being overwhelming. I really love the range of colors in this. Great finish!
