One Wrong Colour: Mighty Lucky Challenge for March

The Mighty Lucky Club challenge for March was all about colour.  Our coach this month was Rossie Hutchinson and she provided some really good insights on colour theory and colour wheels.  She then challenged us to pull some fabric, add one "wrong" colour and use her strategies to make the colours work together.

I really had a hard time with this one.  I don't think there is such a thing as a "wrong" colour. Anyhow, I decided to give it a try and started with this fabric stack:

And added this fabric as my wrong colour:

And, as instructed by Rossie, I added a few more fabrics to make the "wrong" colour work with my original fabric pull.  I chose the print because it had both colours - I thought it would bring everything together nicely.

Rossie suggested a coin quilt to show off the colours and fabrics we pulled.  I figured a coin quilt would be a quick finish so I went for it.

I quilted it with straight line using my walking foot and used blue fabric for the binding.

The finished size is 17" x 18".

I'm super pleased with this little finish!  I absolutely love the process of making these quilts. The challenges are fun and sometimes a little difficult, which is awesome. And the skills I'm learning are skills I'll be able to use on other quilts.

I will be linking up at Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish It Up Friday and at Celtic Thistle Stitches for TGIFF.

  2. OOH those colors look marvelous together. Little, fast quilts are so much fun. I even like how you started with a row of thinner fabs, added a medium wide row and then the last was the biggest. Very interesting.

  3. oh yeah. I agree - choosing a 'wrong' color didn't really click with me, but overall the process definitely did. I like your little quilt alot!

  6. I also agree on the thoughts about wrong colours...but I think it's the idea of adding a bit of a contrast. Your quilt worked out brilliantly.
