Granny Squares and a Pineapple!

I have two finishes to share with you this week:  a granny squares blanket and a mini pineapple quilt!

First up is the blanket.  A couple of years ago, I decided to learn how to crochet. I needed a "portable" project and hand sewing doesn't really appeal to me so crochet it was!  And a perfect design for a beginner is the granny square.  So I spent a little bit of time on YouTube, found some tutorials and before you know it, I had my very first granny square.

When I prepared my Q1 FAL list back in January, I put this blanket on my finish list (it was number 1 in fact). After months of those granny squares just sitting there, I decided the blanket needed to get finished.

I joined the squares with single crochets, which was super easy and quick.  I love the texture it gives to the sashing between the squares.

The yarn is Sugar n Cream, which, in retrospect, isn't the softest yarn to use for a blanket.  That is why it'll probably end up on the back of the recliner we have in the living room.  But it's done and I'm happy with it.

Next is a mini Pineapple wall quilt.  I mentioned this pattern in my post about the strawberry mini.  I used yellow and green scraps (making this Scrappy Project #5) and a white background.

I quilted it with the same designs I used on the strawberry:  some back and forth lines in the green, paisleys in the yellow and pebbles in the white.

I now need to make at least another fruit - even though my sweetie thinks I'm insane and completely out of control...  :-)

I will link up at Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish It Up Friday and at Quokka Quilts for TGIFF.

  7. Oh, the quilting on that pineapple is unbelievable! I tried a few times to re-learn to crochet (I used to know how when I was a child) but it never stuck. Next time I get the urge, it will probably be to try and make a pretty granny squares blanket like yours!
