WIP Wednesday - Baby Quilt #2

Before I show you pictures of my progress with baby quilt #2, I thought I would share the results of the hand quilting project I started a couple of weeks ago.

As you can plainly see, I have lots of room for improvement, but I got it done! I have pretty long nails, so my thimble just didn't feel comfortable at all. I basically decided to work without it and use my nails to push the needle through once I managed to get 3 stitches onto it. The "rocking" motion wasn't as easy or smooth that way, but it definitely got better with practice.

I made the backing last night so this pillow is done. Full reveal and pictures of the whole thing later this week.

Besides this pillow, the main project occupying my quilting time is baby quilt #2. I'm using Jeni Baker's Pyramid Dance pattern (Quilty Magazine) and I pulled a bunch of fat quarters from my stash in shades of blue and green, with a bit of orange.

I've got a couple of rows pieced already.

I am loving these cute babies...

And this awesome print (can't remember what designer these are from, so if you know, please leave a comment!)...

I'm hoping to have a quilt top before the weekend so I can start quilting and it all done for the end of next week!

Will be linking up at Lee's for WIP Wednesday... You should too!

  4. Nice job with your hand quilting, that's going to be an adorable baby quilt. Very neat pattern I'll have to pick up that magazine.

  5. I think your quilting looks great! I can't do thimbles either. I've found that a band-aid does the trick. I stick it on the pad part is whereever the needle is hitting. It is just enough to keep that obnoxious needle burn away.

Your new quilt looks awesome. Looking forward to it coming together!

  8. Don't be so hard on yourself - your quilting is great! The blue is a really nice contrast. If you have trouble wearing a thimble, you could try a Thimble Pad. It's just a little round piece of leather with a sticky side to stick to the pad of your finger. Sometimes easier than a full round thimble but still protects your finger. That baby quilt is coming along nicely. I've got that issue of Quilty. Must pull it out & look up the measurements again. Yours is going to be so cute!

  10. I couldn't plainly see any room for improvement. Writing that made me look harder! I think it's great. Love the baby quilt design too.
