My First Ever...

I finished my first ever hand quilted project this week! I showed you a close up of the quilting earlier this week, but here is the full reveal.

This 16" square pillow cover was inspired by Amanda Jean's stunning pillow. When I saw it on the Crazy Mom Quilts blog, I just HAD to make one.

I pieced the top with a Bonnie and Camille mini charm pack (Marmalade I think!) and used a cream dotty print from their Modern Vintage collection for the sashing.

I hand quilted it using Aurifil 12 wt thread about 1/4" away from the seams.

The back is a simple envelope made with a Fig Tree & Co print.

I have to admit i didn't love the hand quilting. I didn't hate it, but I don't know that I would use this technique on a large quilt.

Now I need to get back to those baby quilts!

Linking up at the usual places again this week:

Have a great weekend!

Izzy

  2. ooooh!! I love it! I liked Amanda Jean's too. Patchwork is really the bomb and always my favorite type of quilt. I love the crazy amazing ones too, but there's something about that patchwork...

  3. What a sweet pillow! The hand quilting adds a really nice detail, though I agree that I probably wouldn't want to do it on a full quilt.

  4. I remember hand quilting some with my Mom when I was a teenager, but don't think I would do it now. But your pillow looks great, so pretty! And I agree with Susan, patchwork is awesome :)

  9. Beautiful pillow! I used to hand quilt everything, until the day I realized I could finish projects a lot faster if I machine quilted them. I do still enjoy hand sewing and hand quilting though.
