Ribbon Heart Mini Quilt

Like many people around the world, I've been working from home since March 2020. I set-up my home office in a corner of our dining room but with the exception of a table runner on top of my desk and a magnetic board up on the wall, I've basically been staring at a blank wall for months now.

The hubby did say he's planning on re-painting the dining room very soon so I can't go crazy and start hanging pictures of the grand-kids just yet (I received some really nice pictures during the holidays) but I figured a mini quilt isn't going to be difficult to take down and put back up again so I went for it!

The pattern I chose for my mini quilt is Ribbon Heart Mini by Bonjour Quilts. It's such a simple design and very quick to sew and I'm in love! So many possibilities - not just with the fabric choices, but you could very easily upsize the blocks to make it larger. And it's the perfect project for scraps too.

I chose an orange solid (Kona Tangerine) and a print along with Kona Ash for the background. I used the same fabrics for the binding.

The backing is a gorgeous print (can't remember who the designer is unfortunately and it was a scrap so no selvage) but it pairs beautifully with the colours on the front.

I quilted it in a grid with each line about 1" apart. I say "about" because I didn't mark or measure anything. I just tried to follow the seam lines as much as possible. It isn't perfect, but all I care about is that pretty cool texture. I doubled-up on the batting and I love, love, love the results!

The details:
  • Pattern: Ribbon Heart Mini by Bonjour Quilts
  • Size: 16.5" x 12.5"
  • Fabrics: Kona Tangerine, scraps of an orange dot print and Kona Ash
  • Thread: Pieced and quilted with Aurifil #2600 (Dove) in 50 wt

I definitely have plans to use this pattern a few more times. I can see a row of hearts in a table runner or heart placemats or a pillow...

  1. I like that you made something to decorate your home office. Working from home is such a different thing than going into an office, and your space is looking very cozy with the addition of the mini.

  2. Love it! The combination of orange solid and the print is very nice, and it's a fun look. I can see the versatility of this block, for sure. Lovely!
