New Placemats!

At the end of January, Yvonne who blogs at Quilting Jetgirl, published a tutorial for placemats. I love Yvonne's transparency patterns and these placemats looked so striking, I just had to add these to my To Make list.

At first, I was going to use up scraps for these (you know I've been on a crusade to use up all the scraps!) but then I discovered a stack of Karen Lewis fat quarters in my stash so went with those. Also, I have grand plans to re-decorate the dining room this Spring and black, grey and white are sure to go with any colour I choose for the dining room.

These were super fun to make and although I wasn't sure my fabric choices would really show the transparency effect, when I looked the photos, I saw that on a couple of them, it's pretty effective!

For the quilting, I basically copied Yvonne and went with a grid in light grey thread, stitched about 1" apart. I love the simplicity of it.

I'm really happy with my placemats and cannot wait to start using them. All I have to do now is convince the hubby to get the dining room repainted!

  2. They are a lovely set. It makes me happy to set my table for every meal with the ones I made earlier in the year. I hope you get the same enjoyment for years with these, and good luck with the remodel!
