I finished my last baby quilt this week. This one is for a colleague who is expecting his first baby.
The weather was terrible here yesterday so I couldn't get a nice outdoor picture. :-(. The colours are so much better in person.
The pattern is a free one from the Michael Miller website. I used a variety of fabrics, including some Kona solids and a Riley Blake chevron print for the binding.
For the quilting, although I had some grand ideas about FMQing some stars in the negative space and echoing the bright ones, I ran out of time and had to settle for straight lines with my walking foot. I do like the texture of those lines, each about 1/4" from each seam.
The finished size is about 38" x 45".
The baby shower is tomorrow... I hope the new parents like it! :-)
Have a great weekend!
Izzy
Linking up at Crazy Mom Quilts, TGIFF and My Quilt Infatuation again this week... Why don't you check them out?!
I love it. Grid lines are always my favourite and these look fabulous! The background colour is lovely, very caramelly. Good enough to eat.
ReplyDeleteThis is really super cute. I love the grid lines-and the binding! And thanks for putting the link to the pattern in your post. I love your take on it (in fact, I like it much more than the pattern sample).
ReplyDeleteThe color scheme is just fantastic! I love the blues, greens, and yellows. This pattern is so striking, I already downloaded the instructions--thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteI think the grid quilting really sets off the stars nicely- lucky baby!
ReplyDeleteNice job! I really like the pattern and the way you decided to quilt it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great - just right for a baby quilt!
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that--planned fancy quilting and ended up with the walking foot. So long as the result looks good, no one knows what was in our heads that we abandoned.
ReplyDeleteIzzy! I love this one and I love the quilting! Its so simple and clean and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteColors are so pretty and the quilting looks great, I'm sure they'll love this! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletethis looks amazing Izzy! I love the whimsical placement of the stars, and the background color looks great!

They have to love it .... it's fantastic! Love the random stars.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I like the added texture of the quilted grid lines
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute, modern baby quilt - and so practical at that size. Great for snuggling baby during that first year, just right for floors when out of crib and being changed. Then good in car seats and stroller! THey're going to love it. Thanks for linking to TGIFF!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. You must still be involved with watching Hockey! Our Minnesota Wild hung in there for a while. I hope things are going well for you. Karen
