To say that I'm proud of this finish would be an understatement! Here is Starburst all quilted and done!
If you've been following my blog recently, you know that this quilt was designed by Melissa Corry from Happy Quilting and Melissa wrote a fabulous tutorial for the quilt and then hosted a quilt along. I loved making this quilt.
I used Ruby by Bonnie & Camille and a cream background. The binding is from leftovers from the Ruby fat quarters.
I chose to do the smaller version of the quilt so it finishes at about 56" square. I'm really disappointed by the quality of these pictures, but by the time I get home from work, it's already dark outside so I couldn't take pictures outdoors.
For the quilting, I did some SID around each part of the stars, some stippling in the background within each star and some echo quilting outside the stars. In the border and sashing strips, I used a straight stitch about 1/4" inside each seam and then a wavy stitch about 1/4" from the straight lines. And I'm super proud to have done all the quilting on my home machine! :-)
I love this quilt and I think Puffs agrees with me! :-)

ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous! The way you quilted really makes those stars pop out!
ReplyDeleteIn the pictures, your quilt looks like it was closely stippled for the FMQ portion. How has that worked for you in whether or not that close stitching makes your quilt stiff? What kind of batting do you use for this close of stitching? I have tried it, but it makes the quilt so stiff it is like a board! So I changed to meandering...1 inch between stitches and that has worked pretty good, but a thin batting of flannel is where I am for cuddly, but that isn't that warm! How do you handle this issue? Your stitching is so perfect and beautiful!
ReplyDeletePuffs is fun! I like the quilting a lot! You have every right to be proud proud proud!
