I decided to come up with a word for 2017 - a word that will drive many of my decisions and actions this year, a word I can focus on.
I thought about this all last week. I made a list of words, I tried to come up with a significant, inspiring word. In the end though, I chose a word that is practical, logical and action-driven.

DECLUTTER
According to dictionary.com, "declutter" means to simplify or get rid of mess, disorder, complications, etc: declutter your life.
So 2017 is going to be all about me getting rid of stuff. I need to declutter my house, my closet, my sewing room, my social media feed. My mission will be to only keep or acquire things that bring me joy, that teach me something or that I absolutely need. Something essential...
To help me focus on my decluttering efforts, I decided to participate in the #declutter365 Missions from Home Storage Solutions 101. Here are the daily missions for January:
This banner which now lives in my sewing room will also help me focus...
The banner is entirely made with scraps - the letters, the background, the backing and the binding. All of it!! I quilted it with straight lines using my walking foot.
Quilt Stats:
Pattern: Letters were from the Spell it with Fabric patterns by Moda Fabrics
Size: 12” x 80”
Fabrics: All scraps (this is scrap project #1 for 2017)
Thread: Pieced and quilted with Aurifil #2600 in 50 wt
Recipient: Me!
This is my very first finish of 2017 so I will be linking up at Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish It Up Friday and at Quokka Quilts for TGIFF later this week!

Me too! Last week I started a bin by the door to put things in to be donated and it's already overflowing, and I informed my family that going forward instead of giving me gifts for birthday or christmas, they can make a donation to my favorite charity instead. I feel like this year needs to be about less *stuff*.
ReplyDeleteI like your banner. What a great idea! Declutter is also going strong in my household too. Donated a bunch of Christmas decorations and wrapping paper that I just don't need or want anymore. Looking forward to starting a free library too- a great way to build community and pass along some books that need new homes. Best wishes! -kim
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike! I'm all about using up my stash and working through my bins of scraps. Love that you created banner to keep this goal top of mind :)
ReplyDeleteDeclutter is a great word and mantra. I think it's a wonderful idea to pick a word and I love that the banner will serve as a great reminder all year.
ReplyDeleteYour banner looks great! Good job using your scraps. It will also be a good reminder for you throughout the year. Love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat word for the year! I like the small challenges, they all add up don't they?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...you are preaching to the choir. I hadn't picked a word, but this is so me. And I just printed off the information from that website. I'm a few days behind, but hoping to get on the bandwagon. My house is TOO full of STUFF.
ReplyDeleteLove your banner Izzy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great first finish! I've been trying to declutter for years! Good luck with your mission...you can do it!
ReplyDeleteI love your banner! I am doing the 365 decluttering challenge too! Already feeling better about my kitchen and it will make it much easier for our upcoming February move!
ReplyDeleteHi Izzy! I have been staying off of social media a lot lately so am catching up with your blog. I am amazed at your word since this is what I am doing this year also I think I am going to have to copy you. I am going to check out that website because some days I feel like I am spinning my wheels not knowing where to start.
